Asit Kumar Patnaik
Asit Kumar Patnaik was born in 1968 and raised in Orissa, however he mostly spent his early years in Cuttack. He completed his master’s degree at BHU Varanasi after earning his bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Government College of Art and Crafts at Khalikote. When the Almighty created the world, He made an effort to keep everything in harmony by keeping things in balance. He possessed a little bad for every virtue, a yin for every yang. The paintings of Asit Kumar Patnaik experiment with this idea. To counterbalance his warm-toned themes, he paints a chilly background. Men and women in sensual poses provide an engaging narrative for those who choose to observe. His paintings appeal to the senses and are sensual in their tone. In addition, the sensual red hair symbolises the strong, independent women of this era. Asit creates deeply rooted paintings, and the backdrop cracks contrast with the artwork’s smooth, flowing brushstrokes, adding an intriguing texture. The artist gradually combines the reds, blues, and greens of the figures with the ochers, greys, and browns of the background to create a pleasing perspective in the paintings. The colour scheme selected by the artist is full of chilly, rustic reds, browns, ocher, and teal tones, suggesting that nothing in a relationship is black and white. Asit’s paintings are complex, just like the individuals in that connection and the relationship itself. Similar to numerous other romantic partners, the respondents exchange nonverbal cues such as shy smiles, meeting one other’s eyes, and then averting their gazes. What’s happening in their hearts and thoughts is shown through their facial expressions and physical attributes. The physical closeness, facial emotions, and silent yet effective communication between the men and women in these paintings all serve as means by which the artist examines the relationship between them.
