B.V. Nalakar
In this series of forts and palaces, Nalakar, who characterises his work as a fusion of realism and impressionism, aims to depict India’s architectural legacy. He depicts Benares, Rajasthani structures bustling with the regal subjects dressed in vibrant garments. Instead of concentrating on the sculpture’s finer details, he observes how light and shadow interact with the building’s structure.
Through my paintings, I have thus far explored Mughal, Indo-Afghani, and Indo-Saracenic architecture. My goal is to conserve these buildings through art because they might not survive for another century, says Nalakar. The nation’s emperors and monarchs have constructed a number of monuments, temples, and tombs as symbols of their governance and as a record of their successful reign. Over time, all of them have faded into obscurity, so it is imperative that these historical landmarks be preserved for both present and future generations. Haveri’s BV Nalakar is hard at work conserving these monuments for future generations through his paintings and artwork.
