Farhad Hussain

When a science graduate student is heard of joining Kala Bhawan at Santiniketan for yet another graduation followed by post graduate diploma from the faculty of fine art at Baroda, what does it say about him? The thirst for fulfilling his dreams made him the man he is now. A modest artist, Farhad Hussain’s palette is so vivid that it screams in your ears that what you initially see on the painting is not what he wants you see. The artist wants you to see past the humour to the sarcasm that is just waiting to surprise you. His creations narrate a story in which every character is as significant, has a distinct personality, and is yet connected to the others in some way. He uses tempera on fabric in his work. 

His works are distinguished by their vivid colours and flat tones that offer a clean surface devoid of roughness, save for tiny textile patterns used for detailing. Although he used his own unique way of expression, one may see faint traces of the influence of Japanese prints, Kalighat paintings, and miniature paintings in his works. His comedic and sardonic compositions are frequently placed in a familiar drawing room or social setting. The artist’s influence is apparent in his creations, as he has realised his dream of developing a distinctive style of his own.
