Laxma Goud
Exaggerated mythic figures are portrayed in Laxma Goud’s intricate figurative paintings amidst the everyday rural reality of rural India. Goud depicts mythological goddesses in multicoloured costumes, operatic etchings, pastels, charcoal drawings, paintings, and sculptures with the same energy and drama as he does the lives of rural townspeople and heroes in ostentatious armour. Goud includes traditional tribal jewellery and parts of Indian clothing, like saris and lungis, drawing on his upbringing in rural India. His paintings are rife with eroticism as well; genitalia and provocative positions are frequently included among the pastoral tableaus. Goud has held exhibitions in Munich, Taiwan, Geneva, Amsterdam, New York, Mumbai, New Delhi, London, and Washington, D.C. The Phillips Collection, the Glenbarra Art Museum, and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, all own his pieces.
