Manash Ranjan
Manash Ranjan Jena, one of the most prominent and significant visual artists of our generation in India, was born on April 21, 1968, in a small town in the Mayurbhanj region of rural Odisha. He defies categorization as a figurative artist who exclusively paints female figures. Rather, he is a “Figurative Feminist,” using his canvases as triggers to highlight a variety of emotional and societal problems that women experience in a world controlled by men. Having received his education at B.K. College of Art in Bhubaneswar, his canvases all serve as mirrors reflecting the harsh realities of sexual politics, hierarchy, and duality in our society. In the roughly 300 paintings he has painted, Jena has a confident yet delicate style. He has captured the idea of a concentrated female character, juxtaposed by several other visual components. The artist, who is well-known for incorporating rich textures into his works, has numerous well-known clients, including the Atlanta Hotel Zurich, Little Charlie (the son of Charlie Chaplin), and Living Colour Exposition Switzerland. He has been a faculty member at B. K. College of Art, Bhubaneswar, since 1991. He has been recognised for his work with numerous honours throughout the years, including the Orissa State Lalit Kala Academy Award for Sketch in 1987 and the Orissa State Lalit Kala Academy Award for Painting TEMPLELION in 1997.
