Mrinal Dey
Mrinal Dey, who was born in West Bengal in 1979, graduated from Indira Kala Sangeet University in Chhattisgarh in 2005 with a master’s degree (MFA) and with a bachelor’s degree (BFA) in fine arts (with a painting concentration). A humorous commentary on the self-inflicted trappings of modern life, Dey’s paintings are. The main person, who is usually oversized, represents excessive materialism as well as the profound loneliness brought on by commercialization.
The main character is portrayed in the artist’s paintings in a way that is both distinctly human and disturbingly horrific as he addresses the socio-cultural challenges of our day. In addition, his paintings have a surrealist undertone since the main characters’ dreams appear to come and go. These characters captivate the audience with their icy gazes, evoking feelings of both disgust and wonder. Mrinal Dey challenges the current monetization of nearly all people and things, including art, with his compelling artwork.
