Paresh Maity
Paresh Maity was born in 1965 in Tamluk, a small village in West Bengal with a rich history of terracotta art. While in school, he created clay images of gods and goddesses and sold them to fund his tuition. He began painting watercolours of river views while still in school, progressing to oil painting later. He studied oil painting at the Government College of Art in Kolkata. His unwavering drive to pursue formal education paid off when he arrived in Delhi to enrol at the Delhi College of Art. Paresh’s spirit of adventure and experimentation has encouraged him to work in a variety of media, including mixed media, watercolour, oil, drawings, photography, cinema, installation, and sculpture. The distinctiveness of Paresh’s paintings is found in his rediscovery of India’s allure, flavour, and magic. The human inspiration for his work has come from Rajasthan; Shantiniketan from the spirituality of mind, body, and soul; Agra from the beauty of the Taj; Ajanta-Ellora from the amazing Buddhist frescoes; Kerala from the serene ghats of Varanasi to the Himalayan heights of Himachal Pradesh are all represented in his magical series. He has completed a number of pieces covering nearly every aspect and location in India, as well as trips to China, Japan, London, and Venice abroad. He has painted them all.
